---

Overall, things are going well and more or less on schedule (I’m not publishing at the moment, but pieces are lining up for books that will be release months from now). As I think I’ve mentioned before I’m especially happy to get back to writing instead of simply organizing. As point of fact, if things keep lining up the way they are, I’ll be able to carve out some time to write ‘Synoma’ while delivering on the Salt in Wounds kickstarter.

I’m in the process of nuking (rather than deleting) my social media (ie, unfollow everyone, clean slate posts, deleting venues that aren’t working). The reasons are somewhat involved (I’m writing an essay about it, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter/website if you want to read it which is also a good way to get a free copy of my short story collection Love, Werewolves & Algorithms) but basically I’m learning how to carve out space for my emotional and creative life in a rapidly changing environment, where the expectations I have for myself (regarding writing, managing a team, and producing books) is different than it’s ever been.

I’ve had some people share their thoughts, give me praise about Design Notes. If you have a moment please review Design Notes

Project Worth Mentioning

‘The Book of the Tarrasque’ is something I think ya’ll might be interested in. This is dozens of pages about the history, use, and strategy all related to the Tarrasque. They were even nice enough to mention Salt in Wounds. The Book of the Tarrasque

Collaborator You Should Check Out

As you know, I’m not producing Salt in Wounds by myself; I can only put things out in the time frame that makes sense to me thanks to the amazing contributions of some extremely talented writers, designers, and artists. I wanted to take a moment each Kickstarter update to help promote their kickass creations. First up is the principle Salt in Wounds artist Jeffrey Chen who you can watch create live via his Twitch stream or check out his daily paintings via his instagram.

Update 6: 2017.1.17
over 7 years ago – Tue, Jan 17, 2017 at 10:42:31 PM

Hey all you awesome backers! Here’s another update. For your gaping maw that forever hungers for News in Wounds… salt in news? Something like that.

What I’ve been up to the past few weeks

  • Collected Warlock Customization Assignment – Playtest soon

  • Got back to backers who didn’t receive Design Notes (I think there’s a few recent messages I haven’t responded to yet – expect a response shortly)

  • Messaged the other publishers re: undelivered rewards

  • Setup the new playtest system based on feedback/analysis of the last attempt (if your pledge includes playtest access ie Marrow Miner and above expect an invite to special g-drive folder soon).

  • Wrote Salt in Wounds Iconic Sorcerer Bio

  • Started review and notes for the pathfinder draft of ‘Alchemy of Blood and Body’ (expect playtest shortly)

  • Setup group messaging for Binder-Lords so they can start providing notes for their respective meridian houses (expect invites shortly)

    Things I’m Working on Now

  • Taking time to organize/consolidate folders and resources (assignments and fragments are starting to come in at an increasing rate, and I need to make sure I’m putting them together to keep things straight and make playtest easier)

  • More Iconic Bios

  • Finalizing Convention Schedule with my wife

  • More Class Customizations

  • Finalizing the 5e Tarrasque Fed Supplement

  • Releasing a draft of the pathfiner Tarasque Fed Supplement for comment

  • Next draft of Alchemy and Intrigue along the red river

    And now, back to work!

Before I go, here’s a low res mockup version of the SiW logo – it comes in different colors to make it easy to place on different covers. Hell yeah!

PS Quick clarification, when I asked about ‘newsletter’ timing, I was referring to my jmperkins writer newsletter which is different than these updates (if you want to sign up for that, easiest way is via jmperkins.com) but I sincerely appreciate your notes.

Regularly scheduled update delayed to Tuesday
over 7 years ago – Sun, Jan 15, 2017 at 11:02:57 PM

Hey peeps, just wanted to shoot a quick update that the proper update will be delayed to Tuesday; I'm on vacation this weekend in the mountains and made the last minute decision not to bring my laptop (and I'd rather not type out everything on my phone). Thanks for understanding and see you in 48 hours when I'm back to sea level and proper wifi.

Update 5: 2017.1.2
over 7 years ago – Mon, Jan 02, 2017 at 09:28:24 PM

Happy New Year! Here’s some Salt in Wounds stuff I did:

  • Published and distributed Design Notes to all Marrow Miner and up backers (email me if you didn’t see this) – Also, if you have a moment, please remember to review this as it’s extremely helpful when you review my (or any creator’s) work.
  • Accepted the ‘Grub House’ intro adventure from contributor Doug Easterly (it needs a little clean up, but I’ll release a draft to all Marrow Miner and up backers for playtest shortly).
  • Reviewed all Tarrasque Fed feedback (still not super happy with the title of that supplement though…)
  • Started Art Orders
  • Finished 3 New Monsters and a Monster Template (they go along with the intro adventure)

Things I’m Working on Now

  • Iconic Bios
  • Class Customizations
  • Monsters (I’m using ‘Design a Monster’ as the first assignment for some of the freelancers/artists I’m not personally familiar with)
  • Tarrasque Fed Pathfinder Playtest (will have much less time than the 5e Version sadly)
  • Tarrasque Fed Supplement completion, playtest, layout, and publication (for 5e & Pathfinder)

Other Stuff and Questions for you!

  • I’ve decided to switch a couple release dates: I plan to release the Intrigue and Alchemy along the Red River module in February 29, Alchemy of Blood and Body to March 29
  • Question: I’ve committed to doing a 50 Monster Salt in Wounds Bestiary – would it decrease your enjoyment to see those monsters sprinkled throughout the other supplements? (I’d like to put them where they fit, and help promote/build anticipation for the eventual Bestiary)
  • In addition to Salt in Wounds, one of my biggest areas of interest is in improving & expanding my writer newsletter. What sorts of things would *you* like to see in my newsletter (besides what I’m up to): gaming tips? Inspiration? Short fiction?
  • As a followup question to what you would want to see in my newsletter, how often would you want one to be published: weekly or monthly?
  • Lastly, let me ask one more time: please review Design Notes if you have the time and inclination.

Anyway, zugzug back to work and all that. I hope your 2017 is going swimmingly. I don’t tend to make resolutions (I’m constantly trying to set, reach, and reassess my goals) but the new year is a great time for me to rewatch and share one of my favorite bits of inspiration: Ze Frank’s ‘Invocation to Beginnings.’

Warts and all, let’s fire it up.
